Before I discuss any kind of music I always like to preface by saying I'm what most would consider a very "mainstream fan." So leading up to the Dave Matthews concert, the only songs I'd really listened to were "Space Between," "Ants Marching," & "Crash Into Me." Arguably his three biggest hits. With that being said, here are my thoughts on the show:
I thought the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater was a great venue for this sort of show. Dave isn't a huge "get up and dance" artist, but more of a "lay in the grass and enjoy the sounds" kind of guy. The weather was perfect and we couldn't have asked for a better night.
Dave Matthew's Band as a whole is easily one of the most talented groups I've ever seen. These guys could play instrument after instrument to absolute perfection. They'd rattle off these five minute solos without even taking a second to catch their breath. They're one of those bands you really need to see live to appreciate how much goes into their music.
Obviously Dave Matthews headlines the band, but the star of the show was by far the violin player. I'd never even thought about joining the orchestra when I was younger, but after watching that guy play I wish I would have. He made playing the violin look like the most bad ass thing around. I couldn't believe it.
In addition to the great music, there was also this gourmet funnel cake truck. Elizabeth and I got a funnel cake layered with buttercream frosting and covered with chunks of Oreo cookie. Talk about sinfully delicious!
Even if you haven't listened to Dave Matthew's Band much, they're still worth the price of admission. They've got a great sound and plenty of entertainment value. They're a safe bet to add to any summer concert series!
