I've probably said it before, but I'll say it again. I LITERALLY JUST BOOKED THE TRIP OF A LIFETIME! In November I'm taking a six-day trip to Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The motivation for this trip was to fly Etihad's First Class Apartments on their A380 and sample their world-renowned first class lounge in Abu Dhabi.
I scored some sweet deals on this trip. My first leg of the trip is going to look like this: OMA-MSP-LHR-DXB. For this portion I transferred 82,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points to Delta at a 1:1 ratio for a small fee of $49.20. The transfer was instantaneous and I had 85,000 Delta Skymiles ready to rock and roll.
This is actually a very cool mixed cabin ticket. OMA-MSP is just your standard main cabin ticket on Delta. MSP-LHR is going to be in Delta One on their Boeing 767. I flew Delta One last year from Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia but it was on their Boeing 777.
The last leg of the trip is in Virgin Atlantic Upper Class from LHR-DXB on their A330. I also sampled this same exact product last year when my Mother and I went to London.
All of this was only 85,000 Skymiles and $47.30. My grand total right now is up to $96.50
The grand daddy of them all is my return flight back to the US on Etihad. I finally get to fly in the world renowned Etihad A380 first class apartments. This is a whole new level of luxury my friends.
Flying reimaged...Anyways, the best way to redeem miles for Etihad first class is through American Airlines AAdvantage program. My one-way ticket from AUH-JFK was 115,000 AAdvantage miles and $47, bringing my grand total to $143.50. You can't even buy an Etihad first class ticket alone for less than $8,000!
Last but not least, I will have to pay for a positioning flight from JFK back to OMA, but I can't imagine a one-way ticket will cost any more than $200. All in all I'll probably pay no more than $343.50 in airfare this trip. That, my friends, is what you call a bargain!
Who else has been to Abu Dhabi & Dubai? What did you think?
