No matter how hard I try, I can't bring myself to pack early for trips. It drives my mom and girlfriend nuts, but I love packing the night before. You can't beat the feeling of chucking some clothes in a bag with the anticipation of an early morning departure. Anyone who's been to college knows you do your best work under the pressure of a deadline. Packing is no different. I mean, how am I supposed to know what I want to wear a week ahead of time? Who knows what clothes I'll even have clean? Or how about the weather forecast? God knows you can't trust that a week out.
The best packing procrastination story I have to this day is when my friend Chris and I were leaving on a road trip to Arkansas. We'd just finished our baseball banquet, tried to unsuccessfully get with a few chicks, and were finally headed to his house to grab his stuff. When we got there Chris didn't have single thing ready. He grabbed an old school duffel bag, shoveled in two armfuls of clothes from a laundry basket and we were out the door not even five minutes later. He didn't know what he grabbed, much less cared. He just knew he was hitting the open road. Isn't that what it's all about?!
My flight for LAX leaves Thursday morning. Any guesses about what I'll be doing Wednesday night around 10:00pm? You got it, packing!
Are you a packing procrastinator like me?
