If you're looking for a hotel in Paris you'll notice there are a TON of boutique hotels. The only issue I have with boutique hotels is that their products can be very inconsistent. The Trip Advisor reviews on each of them ranged from "Amazing! best hotel in Paris!" to "Horrible. Bed bugs everywhere, I'm never coming back." Don't get me wrong, I'm sure some of the boutique hotels in Paris are fantastic, but I wasn't willing to chance my first trip to Paris on a crummy hotel.
I ended up choosing the Best Western Premier Saint Michel.
I knew with an American-based brand I'd at least get a consistent product and employees who spoke decent English. I booked a paid rate through Hotels.com for $150.00 a night.
We arrived at the Best Western Premier Saint Michel at approximately 7:30 AM. Check-in time wasn't until 2:00 PM, but they checked our bags so we could go out and explore the city while we waited. When we returned to check-in later that afternoon the hotel staff already had our bags waiting in our room!
I booked their standard room with a queen size bed.
The mattress and bedding were perfectly comfortable and felt amazing after walking around Paris all day. The room had a small closet with a safe, a desk, and a small TV.
The bathroom was nice as well. I thought the bathroom was actually quite large for a European hotel.
There was a bathtub and shower combination, one toilet, and a sink.
I had plenty of room to shower even at 6'2" tall. However, the only thing I found odd was there was only half of a door for the shower. It wasn't anything detrimental, but a decent amount of water would end up on the floor afterwards.
The hotel offered free Wi-Fi and breakfast, however breakfast was 16.00 Euro. The Wi-Fi worked great and I was able to stay in touch with family and friends while I was in the hotel. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel but opted to go out and try different places in the city each morning.
The best feature of this hotel was easily the location.
The metro/train stop was literally fifteen steps from the hotel's front door. The metro is easy to transit and can get you to any major Paris attraction in only a few minutes. The hotel's street, Boulevard Saint Michel, is also a great street filled with restaurants and cafes.
If you're looking for a hotel in Paris that is going to put you in the middle of the action, then the Best Western Premier Royals Saint Michel is the way to go. There's plenty to see and do within walking distance and all of the major Paris landmarks are only a short metro ride away. I thought it was the perfect place to stay for my first trip to Paris.
