I had to be in Des Moines for a wedding a couple of weeks ago so I booked two nights at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown. Rates for this hotel were around $199 a night when I booked my room. It's not terribly cheap, but their rates seem to hover around $220 normally.
I thought it was a little odd that there wasn't an option for different room types when I booked the room online. Their only option is "Guest room, 1 King or 2 Double," but it doesn't let you choose between the two. You can select which one you'd "prefer," but I never received any follow up on my choice. I had to call ahead to finally confirm I had a room with two double beds.
The room itself was your standard hotel convention center room.
There was a flat screen TV across from the beds. Below the TV was a mini fridge and some storage.
Immediately to the left was a desk and an office chair.
The desk had Keurig with some tea bags and coffee pods.
Next to the window was a small table and chair. Don't be fooled, that water wasn't free either...
The bathroom was small with a shower/tub combo, toilet and one sink.
The best part about the room was that the TV had Netflix! There was a nifty button on the remote and when you pressed it, it took you right to the Netflix homepage. Just sign in and Voila! Obviously we indulged in some New Girl during our downtime from the wedding.
I thought the best feature of the hotel was its location. Downtown Des Moines has a nicely developed Skywalk system so half of the time you never even have to go outside. If you do venture out, most attractions were only a few short blocks away.
The Des Moines Marriott Downtown is situated in a great spot. The rooms are comfortable, but not the most luxurious you’ll find. If you’re in the area or need to be downtown I would recommend booking this property. You know what they say, location is key!
