After a very brief stay in London and some quality time at the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, it was time for Elizabeth and I to continue our journey to Dubai! Since I'd reviewed the entire Virgin Atlantic Upper Class experience last year, I'll keep this one short and sweet.
Boarding for flight VS 400 was called at 8:55 PM for our 9:55 PM departure.
Virgin Atlantic's Upper Class Cabin has a total of 22 seats in a 1-2-1 configuration
I love the look and feel of the Upper Class cabin. The British pop music and mood lights create such a hip atmosphere as you board.
Elizabeth and I were seated in 4A & 5A on the left hand side.
The seats themselves were equipped with reading lights, in-flight entertainment screens, AV/USB plug-ins, remote controls, and 110V outlets under the seat.
Waiting at our seats were Herschel amenity kits, menus, and headphones.
The amenity kits had socks, eye shades, a pen, toothbrush, toothpaste, earplugs, Ritual lip balm, lotion, and eye cream.
And the menu offered a nice selection of food and drinks.
Virgin Atlantic also offers a build-your-own-breakfast feature on their overnight flights. Just pick out what you'd like and hand it to the flight attendant. It's nice to only have to go through the ordering process once during the flight.
As Elizabeth and I got settled in we were offered pre-departure beverages and pajamas.
Our plane pushed back from the gate and took off right on schedule.
During our climb out I checked the in-flight entertainment and decided to watch Baby Driver. Virgin Atlantic offers a wide variety of entertainment options.
In classic Virgin Atlantic style, the meal service started with "crisps" AKA chips.
Next, our tables were set and we were offered a selection from the bread basket. How cool are their airplane salt and pepper shakers?
For my appetizer I chose the tomato and mozzarella carpaccio.
Since I had chicken on my flight to London, I opted for the fillet steak this time around. The steak was a little overcooked for me, but unfortunately I'm never going to get a medium-rare steak on a plane.
For dessert I had the apple bread and butter "pudding" AKA cake. I always chuckle at the subtle differences in english between the US and England.
And to top it all off, I said yes to some cheese and crackers after dessert.
At this point I was fat, sassy and ready for bed. While the flight attendants prepped my bed, I went to the lavatory to change out of my jeans. There are three lavatories in the Upper Class cabin, one at the front and two behind the bar.
I think Virgin Atlantic offers a really nice bed for business class. They have a mattress pad, comforter and multiple pillows. I managed to get roughly four hours of sleep before waking up over Iran.
My breakfast order was served shortly after. The eggs and sausage were okay, but I still wasn't terribly hungry from the night before.
As we began our descent into Dubai we were offered fast track cards for immigration.
We landed in Dubai at 9:00 AM, a few minutes ahead of schedule.
I love flying Virgin Atlantic Upper Class. Despite their hard product being a little outdated, I still think it's one of the "hippest" cabins in the sky. You factor in the great service with a little British flair and you've got yourself an all around great product. Thanks Virgin Atlantic, I look forward to flying with you again soon!
